Yellow Jacket Traps

Yellow jacket traps can be made from a variety of household items, or they can be purchased from hardware or gardening stores. The main feature of these traps is a containment system that lures the yellow jackets inside, and once they are in, they can’t get out.

The yellow jacket traps should be placed near nests and at least two to four feet above the ground. Check the traps often for yellow jackets. Before cleaning, place the trap in the freezer for a few hours to ensure all of the yellow jackets are dead.

Homemade traps constructed from two-liter soda bottles are popular and temporary solutions that you can use once and throw away. This works well for outdoor picnics where yellow jackets may be a problem.

For long-term yellow jacket control and nest removal, seek the advice of a pest control professional.
